TEMPEST is a portrait of American demolition derby—an arena of wreckage, release, and raw human energy. A sport where drivers hurl hand-built war machines into one another until only one remains moving, demolition derby is destruction as both competition and catharsis.

For six years and across twelve states, I’ve embedded myself in this world, capturing both its explosive violence and the quiet, unguarded moments within it. I grew up hearing the distant roar of a dirt track in rural Missouri; now, I stand in the thick of it, where impact and resilience collide.

TEMPEST is about the storms—both within and around us—the chaos we embrace, the wreckage we leave behind, and the beauty in breaking things apart to find what remains. In 2025, I will continue photographing demolition derbies across the U.S., further expanding this body of work, which will culminate in a book set for release in 2026.

There is only one degree of
separation between passion
and destruction.
